Reward
The overcoming of the great obstacle, the triumph over a great enemy. It can take its shape in many different forms. Celebration, a gathering of allies and feast around a table. In the mid of celebration, there may be conflict and fighting over who gets what from the spoils. Friendships that were forged in battle may now just as quickly be sliced away like a sword cutting flesh. Greed often shows its ugly side.
For the audience, these scenes serve as moments of calm, of catching one’s breath, and to reflect. But it is not just the audience that reflects. The hero reflects on their journey, sometimes even glancing in a mirror. The hero takes possession of the reward. It is to serve as a boon to the hero. The reward is not always given. Sometimes it is taken.
At other times, the hero is granted a new perspective, one might even call it wisdom.
The hero can also become arrogant, convinced that they are not invincible. If a traitor were to strike, it would be great at this moment. The lessons learned in battle can be quickly forgotten by the short-sighted hero. The journey of inner change, to have the hero be absolutely and irreversible changed is reached at a critical point here. Some change is permanent, but will the hero able to fully change? The journey once more awaits.
